Minister for Youth and Sports (Moys), Mustapha Ussif has disclosed the targets outlined in the contract of Chris Hughton as Head Coach of the Black Stars.
Last month, Chris Hughton was announced as new manager for the Black Stars for the next 21 months, replacing Otto Addo who vacated the role after the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Speaking to the press at the launching of the 2023 and eighth (8th) edition of the Sheikh Sharubutu Cup, Mustapha Ussif revealed that Chris Hughton has been tasked to qualify Ghana to the 2023 African Cup of Nations to be played in Cote D’Ivoire.
Also, Hughton has been tasked to identify local talents, to ensure Ghana qualify for the World Cup and also improve the team’s ranking in the FIFA Ranking.
“The objectives are set by the FA for him to ensure that we qualify for AFCON and also to ensure that we identify local talents from our league. To also ensure that we qualify for the World Cup and also to make sure that our ranking in the FIFA Ranking improves. These are the objectives in the contract that he has signed…,” Mustapha Ussif told Graphic Sports at Kempinski on Thursday.
The Sports Minister also called on all Ghanaians to rally behind Chris Hughton to achieve his targets.
Chris Hughton commenced his task on a good note, beating Angola 1-0 in the AFCON qualifiers in Accra and drawing 1-1 in the reverse fixture, a start Mustapha Ussif is impressed with.
