The Black Princesses (Female U-20 team) defeated their Benin counterparts 3-0 in the opening game of the Girls U-20 WAFU B Cup of Nations taking place in Kumasi.
Ghana after dominating the opening 30 minutes of the game broke the deadlock in the 37th minute. An unmarked Maafia Nyame hammered the ball into the net after she was set up by Comfort Yeboah from a crossing.
The Black Princesses continued to control the game and doubled their lead in the 61st minute, substitute Mary Amponsah showed composure to score with her first touch of the game.
Seven minutes later, the Black Princesses scored the third and wrapped up the win with a beautiful free-kick struck in from the edge of the box by Stella Nyamekye.
The 3-0 win is likely to be enough to send Ghana through to the knockout rounds of the competition depending on other results. Ghana will return to action on Saturday, May 27, 2023 against Cote D’Ivoire.
