William brothers say NO to Ghana

Ghana have been dealt with a huge blow as the William brothers, Nico and Inaki have ruled out any possibility of switching allegiance to represent the senior national team of Ghana, the Black Stars.

Inaki Williams and Nico Williams who were born in Spain to a Ghanaian mother and a Liberian father have been on the wanted list of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for a while now.

Last week, the two brothers arrived in Ghana for the first time purposely for visitation. Reports emerged that they will hold talks with the Ghana FA and there was a possibility that they would switch allegiance.

However, a report from Spanish tabloid Mundo Deportivo indicates that the two brothers have no interest in playing for Ghana despite efforts by the Ghana FA. The reports adds that the brothers have returned to Spain and want to focus on their club careers with Athletic Bilbao.

The reports from Mundo Deportivo comes as no surprise as Inaki Williams who has represented Spain at youth level and has made a single appearance for the senior team revealed last year that he doesn’t feel Ghanaian, hence he can’t play for the national team.

“My parents are from Accra and I really enjoy going. But I wasn’t born or raised there, my culture’s here, and there are players for whom it would mean more. I don’t think it would be right to take the place of someone who really deserves to go and who feels Ghana 100%,” he told the Guardian.
