In some few minutes time, the Black Stars will take on the Falcons of Sudan in a African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman.
After 3 games played and 3 more games to go, Ghana sit first in group C with 9 points after beating South Africa 2-0, São Tomé and Principe 1-0 and Sudan 2-0.
Second spot in the group is occupied by South Africa who equally have 9 points, but have played a game more than Ghana. The Bafana Bafana lost 2-0 to Ghana in the first game, defeated Sudan 1-0 and São Tomé and Principe by 2-0 and 4-2.
Sudan occupy 3rd position, having only beaten São Tomé and Principe 4-0. São Tomé and Principe sit bottom of the group and currently have no chance of securing a place at the 2022 AFCON in Cameroon.
Ghana, who are now top of their group need just a point against Sudan this afternoon to secure a place at the continental showpiece event.
A draw will mean Sudan cannot finish above Ghana, due to Ghana’s better head to head record in games involving the two clubs. Ghana will have 10 points, 1 more than South Africa and 6 more than Sudan.
A draw in Omdurman will secure Ghana a place at the 2022 AFCON, but the team will have to make sure they pick at least 4 points in the remaining 2 games, they would need just a win to do so should South Africa drop points against Sudan in the next group games.
