FIFA Assistant Referee, Patrick Papala has been banned for a year effective the beginning of the 2023/24 season.
The FIFA referee is banned for denying Hearts of Oak a legitimate goal in their Gameweek 33 encounter against Real Tamale United (RTU) at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The game between the two sides which saw RTU win 2-1 and in the process cement their status in the top flight league for another season was marred by a last minute indecision by Assistant Patrick Papala.
Hearts of Oak in the last minute of the game were denied a legitimate goal scored by youngster Yaw Amankwah Baafi for offside.
Unhappy with the call, the Phobians reported the referee to the Match Review Committee, leading to his suspension after he was found guilty.
Per the Match review committee, Yaw Amankwah Baafi was not in an offside position and therefore the goal should have been made to stand.
