WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship: Black Starlets score late to beat Cote D’Ivoire and secure third place

A late goal by substitute Abdul Razak Salifu earned the Black Starlets a 3-2 win against Cote D’Ivoire and a third place finish in the 2022 WAFU Zone B Championship.

The Black Starlets found themselves a goal down after just 5 minutes, Yan Diomande scored from a spot-kick to give the Ivorians the lead.

Few minutes later, the Black Starlets pulled parity from another spot-kick, Abdul Rashid Adams the goal scorer.

The Black Starlets took the lead for the first time in the 58th minute, a crossing from Abdul Rashid Adam fell to Richard Apokum who made no mistake from few meters out.

Ivory Coast probed and got the equalizing goal in the 78th minute, Aboubacar Sidick headed the ball home from close range.

In additional time, Ghana got the third goal and what was the winner through substitute Abdul Razak Salifu, heading home a crossing from Andrew Appiah.

The win secures the Black Starlets third place in the competition. However, that wouldn’t be enough to see them play at the 2023 African Cup of Nations to be played in Algeria next year.

Meanwhile, Nigeria will play Burkina Faso in the final at 6:30 pm.
