Portuguese topflight side Vitória de Guimarães has announced the signing of defender Maxwell Woledzi.
The 20-year old joins on a 3-year deal from Danish fold FC Nordsjælland after successful negotiations and passing mandatory medicals.
“Vitória Sport Clube, Futebol SAD announces that player Maxwell Woledzi has signed a contract with this company valid until June 2025,” read a statement on the club’s website.
“The central defense joins the Conquistadores from FC Nordsjælland, in an operation in which Vitória SC owns 100% of the economic rights of the Ghanaian for the amount of €100,000, with the Danish club being entitled to 25% of the future added value of a sale,” the statement added.
Speaking to the club’s website after signing his contract, Woledzi revealed that he believes the move is the best for his development.
“I chose Vitória because I believe it’s the best step for my development, that’s why I’m here. When I heard about Vitória’s interest, I went to research the club, its history, and quickly realized that it is a club that bets on young players.
“I also looked at the example of Abdul Mumin, who is a player whom I like very much, as an older brother, who has evolved a lot since he arrived in Guimarães. I also saw that they have very devout fans, as they support the team and this will pull even more for me. I want fans to see that I’m a player who gives everything for this emblem.”
Asked about his style of player, he said: “I’m good with the ball on my feet, I’m a very physical player, very passionate about the game. I’m a very committed player and I’m ready to give everything for Vitória. I can’t wait to meet everyone and to play with this sweater.”
Maxwell Woledzi came through the ranks of Ghanaian academy Right to Dream and joined Nordsjælland in 2019, where he made 29 league appearances and scored a goal.
