Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus was denied his 12th league goal of the season for Ajax on Sunday against Go Ahead Eagles due to malfunctioning of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
The game played at the De Adelaarshorst Stadium produced no goals. In the 33rd minute, Kudus thought he had given Ajax the lead when he headed in a crossing from Steven Berghuis.

However, the goal was wrongly ruled out for offside. Center referee Sander van Der Eijk could not consult VAR to confirm or reverse his decision due to a malfunctioning of the technology, a situation skipper Dusan Tadic was unhappy about.
“That was a goal and not an offside,” said a furious Tadic after the game. “I just saw a picture, it’s just a goal. But we have to focus on our game and we have to improve,” he added.
“But it was a clear goal. It was difficult to play against Go Ahead. They played very defensively and just didn’t want to concede a goal. That’s why it was important for us to score the first goal. It doesn’t help that that hit doesn’t count.”
The scoreless draw means Ajax now have a slim chance of retaining the Dutch league title. The team now find themselves 8 points behind leaders Feyenoord.
