Mohammed Kudus’ fine goal in the Johan Cruijff Schaal (Dutch Super Cup) was not enough to save Ajax as they lost 5-3 to rivals PSV Eindhoven.
Kudus started the game from the bench as Ajax raced into a 15th minute lead through summer signee Steven Bergwijn. Before they halftime break, PSV managed to turn the game around, grabbing 2 goals through Guus Til.
Ajax pulled parity in the 54th minute through Antony. In the 63rd minute, Mohammed Kudus was subbed on, coming on for Steven Bergwijn.
PSV scored two quick goals through Cody Gakpo and Guus Til in the 65th and 69th minute respectively to take a 4-2 lead.
Mohammed Kudus gave Ajax a life line in the 72nd minute, the Ghanaian youngster picked up a loose ball at the edge of the box and curled a low shot pass the helpless goalkeeper.

In the 79th minute, Ajax’s hopes of turning the game around hit stumbling block after Calvin Bassey was shown a red card. Later in the game, Xavi Simons struck to wrap up the win for PSV, 5-3.
Kudus will hope to take this form into the new season. The Ghanaian youngster will also hope to dump his injury worries that has limited him to only 12 league starts in two seasons at the club.
