Ghanaian forward Joseph Paintsil scored his 12th league goal of the season for KRC Genk in their 1-1 draw against Cercle Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Friday night.

Cercle Brugge who were playing at home opened the scoring in the 40th minute through Japanese international Ayase Ueda.

In the 52nd minute, Joseph Paintsil scored to make it 1-1. The Ghanaian picked up a pass from Ally Samata and made way into the box, before passing the ball into the net.

Paintsil’s goal was enough to earn Genk a point and keep them at the top of the league table, but sees their lead at the top of the table cut to six points with second place Union Saint-Gilloise having a game in hand, a situation Paintsil is unhappy about.

“Mixed feelings last night! Number 12 bagged but disappointed with the draw. Looking forward to bouncing back after the break – Genkies you deserve better from us,” Paintsil tweeted after the game.

Joseph Paintsil has now scored 12 league goals and provided 9 assists for Genk in the ongoing Belgium Jupiler Pro league campaign.

The 25-year old has been included in Ghana’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola, marking his return to the team after missing out of the squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
