Kumasi Asante Kotoko started their CAF Champions league campaign with a 1-1 draw against Mauritanian champions Nouadhibou at the Stade Cheikha Ould Boidiya.
Kotoko took the lead in the 5th minute through Ibrahim Osman, before referee Gaoussou Kané marred the beauty of the game by awarding a bizarre penalty for Nouadhibou’s goal in the 22nd minute.
The Malian referee without any second thought or hesitation pointed to the spot after the ball had hit center back Yusif Mubarak in the stomach.
Nouadhibou made the moment count ahead of the second leg that will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium on December 4.
