Black Stars skipper André Ayew handed Swansea City a slim advantage going into the second leg of the Championship playoff semi-final.

After an intense first hour which saw André Ayew hit the woodwork, Swansea had the opportunity to open the scoring from the spot in the 64th minute after Rhian Brewster was brought down in the 18 yard box.

André Ayew however couldn’t convert the spot kick. He was denied by a terrific one-handed stop from David Raya.

Brentford minute later unluckily had a man sent off, Rico Henry was shown a straight red for what was a fair tackle on Conor Roberts.

The penalty miss didn’t bog Ayew down, he showed character and scored a stunner in the 81st minute to give Swansea a 1-0 lead going into the second leg. Ayew was named man of the match.

The goal was Ayew’s 16th league goal and 18th goal in all competition this season. He’s the club’s highest scorer this term.

Swansea will travel to the Griffin Park on Wednesday to face Brentford for the return leg. The winner of the tie will face one of Cardiff and Fulham in the final at Wembley on August 4th.
