Top 5 best performing Ghanaian players for the 2019/20 football season

Almost the end of a strange football season interrupted by a global pandemic (Coronavirus), one which stretched the supposed 9 months football season to 13 months.

In spite of that, it is worthy to note that some Ghanaian players have been astounding throughout the season for their respective clubs. Mahamashaibu.com brings to you the best five of those players.

ANDRÉ AYEW

André Ayew finished the season as Swansea top scorer with 18 goals.

It is not easy to be a top level player playing in the Championship and still give your all, but that hasn’t been the case with André Ayew.

The Deputy Swansea skipper has been in scintillating form for the Swans since returning on loan from Fenerbahce, leading his outfit to a playoff spot, but unfortunately fell short against Brentford in the semifinal of the playoffs, losing the encounter 3-2 on aggregate.

Ayew scored 16 times and provided an additional seven assists for Steve Cooper’s side and was the third most fouled player (99) in the Championship this season.

JORDAN AYEW

Jordan was named Palace player of the season

It is in no doubt that football is a talent for a the Ayew family. Jordan Ayew has this season been as good as his senior brother André Ayew. The last son of the legendary Abedi Pele has finally reached his potential.

Ayew this season was Crystal Palace’s best player of the season, he scored 9 premier league goals, making him the club’s highest scorer this term. The 9 goals earned the club 14 solid points.

Jordan’s 9th goal of the season which came against Bournemouth in June made him Ghana’s highest scorer in the English Premier league (26), breaking a record previously held by erstwhile Leeds United star Anthony Yeboah (25).

The 28-year-old won 10 Palace man of the match awards and 2 player of the month awards.

Ayew was named Palace player of the season, he received 37% of the votes, beating Vicente Guaita (28.2%) and Gary Cahill (16.7%) to scoop the award. He also won the Players’ player of the season and the goal of the season award with his solo effort against West Ham in December.

THOMAS PARTEY

Partey has been amazing in Atlético Madrid’s midfield this season

Wanted by most top European clubs, Partey has this season enjoyed his best season at Atlético Madrid. The combative midfielder slotted in perfectly for Rodri who departed to Manchester City last summer.

Partey sealed a place in Atlético Madrid’s midfield. He managed to convince Simeone that there’s no party like a Partey party.

The 27-year-old won the hearts of lot of football fans around the globe in Atlético Madrid’s humbling of Liverpool in the Champions League round of 16. He stole the show in both encounters.

Partey as well powered Atlético to an eight consecutive top three finish. He scored 3 goals in La Liga, equaling his La Liga scoring record in each of the last three seasons.

MOHAMMED SALISU

Salisu has been one of the revelations of La Liga this season

Having sparingly being used in preseason, Mohammed Salisu earned his La Liga debut on the first day of the 2019/20 La Liga season.

He was thrown in to replace the outstanding Fernando Calero who had departed and joined Espanyol in the summer. Salisu passed the test in flying colors as they won the game 2-1. He since then never turned his back and featured in 30 more La Liga games.

Salisu guided Valladolid to a 13th place finish, their highest finish in Spanish top flight football since 2002.

The 21-year-old made 154 clearances (3rd most in La Liga) and has attracted top European clubs with his performances.

According to reports, he’s just a step away from joining English Premier League outfit Southampton.

KUDUS MOHAMMED

The youngster’s performances earned him a dream move to Ajax

Kudus Mohammed enjoyed a splendid 2019/20 football season. The youngster who can play in a variety of positions scored 11 times for Nordsjælland, finishing the season as the club’s leading scorer in the league.

Kudus Mohammed’s outstanding performances earned him a national team call up, where he scored on his debut in a African cup of nations qualifier against South Africa in November.

The 20-year-old as well earned a place on the transfer list of some top European clubs, before deciding to join Ajax for a fee reported to be around €9m, becoming Ghana’s most expensive teenager and 10th most expensive transfer.

The youngster as well earned a place on the 2020 top 100 Golden Boy list, a list which has now been whittled down to 80, with Kudus still in contention.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Honorable mentions for Joseph Aidoo and Iddrisu Baba who were both amazing all season for their respective clubs.

Joseph Aidoo helped Celta Vigo avoid relegation on the final day of the season. Iddrisu Baba’s efforts on the other wasn’t enough for Real Mallorca to avoid the drop, but the defensive midfielder left a huge mark on the 2019/20 La Liga season.
