Today marks exactly 3 years (12 June 2017) since Asante Kotoko team bus was involved in a tragic accident at Nkawkaw.
The team was heading back to Kumasi from Accra after a 28th minute Abdul Halik Hudu strike ensured that Kotoko suffered a 1-0 defeat in the hands of Inter Allies in a Premier league fixture at the El Wak Stadium.
The club’s team bus after overtaking a salon car run into a stationery Kia Rhino truck, the incident occurred around 9:45pm and it claimed the life of assistant equipment officer Thomas Kofi Obeng Asare and the driver’s mate of the Kia Rhino truck it run into.
Head Coach, Steve Polack, Ashitey Ollenu, Evans Quao, Michael Akuffu, Awudu Nafiu, Osei Agyemang, Godwin Ablodey, Baba Mahama, Ahmed Adams and Isaac Amoako also suffered various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment.
It was later revealed that Kotoko’s league game against bitter rivals Hearts of Oak which was scheduled to come on that weekend was postponed until further notice, the next game against WAFA was also postponed.
