Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey has been on the wanted list of most European clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
The combative midfielder who has so far had a fine season and has been indisputable in Diego Simeone’s team is on the wanted list of Arsenal, Manchester United, Roma and Inter Milan.
The 26 year old has a contract that ends in 2023. He also has a €50million (£43.5m) release clause in his contract, one which appeals to a lot of suitors.
Atlético Madrid have already offered the midfielder a new deal until 2025, one which will double his release clause €100m (£87m) and also hope will fend off bids from suitors.
According to Ghanaian journalist Rahman Osman, Atlético Madrid’s hope of keeping Partey at the club has taken a nosedive, the midfielder finds the club’s contact offer ludicrous.
“The offer from Atletico Madrid to Thomas Partey is (Rubbish) and therefore he did not and will not sign it”, Rahman Osman told the The AFC BeII.
‘I do not know the smallest details in the contract submitted by Atletico Madrid, but the description that I received from my sources stated that it did not meet the aspirations of the player and his team much. This offer is “of rubbish”and therefore the player did not sign it.’
Rahman Osman also revealed that Partey has refused to speak on his link to Arsenal.
“I personally asked Thomas about the Arsenal rumours but he told me that there is no chance he would say or say anything.”
He went on to add that the recent quotes from Partey’s father concerning Partey’s link to Arsenal are true.
“Yes, I contacted Thomas’ father and the quotes are real, he said this on the radio but it was not authorized to publish those details.”
The reported breakdown in Partey’s contract discussion will give suitors some hope. It’ll be fascinating to see how things unfold in the coming days.
