Thomas Partey pushes Arsenal to Community Shield glory

Ghanaian international, Thomas Partey was fantastic for Arsenal in midfield as they defeated Manchester City 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw to win the 2023 Community Shield at the Wembley Stadium.

Thomas Partey who has been linked with a move away from the club in large parts of this summer was handed a starting role and lasted the entire duration.

Arsenal found themselves a goal down in the 77th minute after substitute Cole Palmer curled home a sumptuous effort which looked like the winner.

The Gunners leveled the score after 100 minutes to push the game into penalties. Leandro Trossard’s fierce strike deflected in off Manuel Akanji and went pass a helpless Ortega.

Arsenal won the shootouts 4-1. Kevin Debruyne and Rodri missed their kicks, while Ødegaard, Leandro Trossard, Bukayo Saka and Fabio Viera converted for the Gunners.

The win which secured the team its 17th Community Shield is Thomas Partey’s first trophy at the club since joining in 2019.

Partey in the game picked up a yellow in the opening 10 minutes but went on to display a nearly perfect performance, a sign of the quality he brings to the team.
