Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey penned an emotional message to his former club Atlético Madrid after sealing a move to Arsenal on transfer deadline day.
The 27-year-old on Monday signed a four-year contract with Arsenal after his €50m release clause at Atlético Madrid was triggered by the North London club.
Partey joined Atlético Madrid in 2012 and was subsequently moved to the reserves. In March 2013, Thomas was called up to the senior side, but was sent on loan to Real Mallorca in the 2013/14 season and Almeria in 2014/15.
The industrious midfielder made his official Atlético Madrid debut in November 2015. Partey made 188 appearances for the Madrid outfit, scoring 16 times. He in the process helped the club win the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup in 2018, and was a UEFA Champions League runner-up in 2016.
A post translated from Spanish on Partey’s official Instagram page said: “Dear Atletico fans, today I only have words of gratitude with you. For several years now, Atlético de Madrid has been my home and a part of this family will always be with me. I want to thank the club for the trust placed in me from day one, but above all, I want to thank you, this wonderful hobby that I accepted from the first moment and that has shown that it is both in good times and in bad times and you never truly stop believing. Atlético de Madrid is not just a club, it is a family. Thank you ♥”
