Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey has been included in Atlético Madrid’s 25 man squad to feature in the remaining games of the UEFA Champions league despite fitness concerns.
The combative midfielder picked up a muscular micro-break in Atlético Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad in the final round of games for the 2019/20 La Liga season.
Partey has been sidelined since then and he’s racing against time to be fit for the club’s Champions league quarterfinal game against Leipzig at the José Alvalade stadium in Lisbon on Thursday.
In spite of that, the midfielder has been included in the list of 25 players to present the club in the remaining games of the UEFA Champions League.
As it stands. Partey is unlikely to start for the Rojiblancos on Thursday against Leipzig, but it remains unclear whether he will be fit to feature in the remaining games should Atlético advance to the semifinal and possibly the final of the competition.
Angel Correa and Sime Vrsaljko have completely been left out of the squad after they tested positive for Covid-19. The duo will remain in Spain and be treated.
