Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey made his full Arsenal debut in a 2-1 victory against Austria fold Rapid Vienna in the first group game of the Europa league.
The midfielder, who made a €50m move from Atletico Madrid on the last day of the transfer window and saw only 8 minutes of action in Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City over the weekend was handed his first start by Mikel Arteta.
The 27-year-old lasted the entire duration and pulled a scintillating performance, surely the first of many in the red and white colors.
After a cagey first half, Rapid Vienna took the head in the 51st minute through Taxiarchis Fountas, he capitalized on an error by goalkeeper Bernard Leno.
Quick goals from David Luiz and skipper Pierre-Emerik Aubameyang in the space of 4 minutes gave Arsenal a 2-1 lead.
The game ended 2-1, with Thomas Partey being the center of attention. The combative midfielder’s performance left a plethora of football lovers singing praises, including Owen Hargreaves.
“Thomas Partey had one of the best debuts I’ve ever seen. This guy makes it look so easy. Everybody is looking to him. He runs the whole game, you can tell he’s been playing in the Champions League, it’s too easy for him,” Hargreaves told BT Sports.
Thomas Partey will hope to keep his place in the team when Arsenal welcome Leicester City to the Emirates on Sunday.
