Thomas Partey and Gideon Mensah miss opening day training as Ghana hit the ground running for Madagascar AFCON qualifier

The Black Stars commenced preparations for the Group E African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Madagascar on Monday, June 12 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Twenty three (23) players were involved in the first training session. Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey and AJ Auxerre left-back Gideon Mensah were the only two players who did not participate.

Per reports, Thomas Partey was yet yo report to camp, while it remains unknown as to why Gideon Mensah who reported to camp earlier in the day did not feature in the training.

Also, Bechem United striker Hafiz Konkoni only participated in the warmup and did not take part in the collective team training. The player who received a late call up trained separately and is expected to join the team training on Tuesday.

The Black Stars will continue their training at the Accra Sports Stadium until Thursday, fine-tuning their tactics and preparing for the crucial encounter.

The team will fly out of the country on Friday, June 16 to Antananarivo, where they’ll face Madagascar. The game is scheduled for Sunday, June 18, 2023 at the Stade Kianja Barea.

Ghana go into the game sitting on top of their Africa Cup of Nations Cote D’Ivoire 2023 qualifying group with 8 points after two wins and two draws in the first four matches.
