Thomas Partey and Atlético Madrid bow out of the UEFA Champions League

It was the end of the road for Thomas Partey and Atlético Madrid in the Uefa Champions league after they suffered a 2-1 defeat to German outfit RB Leipzig.

Thomas Partey who picked up a muscular micro-break in Atlético Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad in the final round of games for the 2019/20 La Liga season watched the entire game from the bench.

Leipzig opened the scoring in the 51st minute, a perfect lofted cross from Marcel Sabizter was met by Dani Almo who steered a close range header into the left side of the goal.

Atlético Madrid restored parity in the 71st minute, João Félix after being fouled by Klostermann in the 18-yard-box took the penalty and perfectly slammed it home to make it 1-1.

Leipzig went ahead again in the 88th minute, a shot at the edge of the box from substitute Tyler Adams deflected off Stefan Savic and went straight into the net, Oblak could do nothing about the effort.

The game had an intense finish, but there was nothing to change the scoreline, Leipzig emerged victorious, 2-1.

Leipzig advanced to the Semifinal and will face French champions PSG. For Thomas Partey and Atlético Madrid, they will have to lick their wounds and try again next season.
