Tariq Lamptey shows Ghana FA why they need to intensify the chance for him

In a pulsating and intense game at the AMEX stadium between Brighton and Chelsea, 19-year-old Tariq Lamptey showed to the Ghana FA why they need to intensify the chase for him and what they could have on board should they convince him to play for Ghana.

Tariq Lamptey who was born in United Kingdom (UK) to Ghanaian parents dropped an orgasmic performance against the side he started his career at.

The youngster played full throttle and continually terrorized the Chelsea defense with his energy, pace, quick-feet and trickery. He was a constant threat on the left throughout the game.

His movement gave especially Marcos Alonso too much problems, the Spanish international was seen chasing shadows for most parts of the game. Alonso on occasions needed extra help from Timo Werner and Jorginho to stop the sensational youngster.

Despite being in a team that lost 3-1, Tariq’s footballing abilities were glaring. He provided the assist to Leandro Trossard for Brighton’s goal and created 1 big changed from open play, which was more than the entire Chelsea team created on the day.

Tariq’s scintillating performance earned him plaudits across the globe, and even one of the greatest right backs the English game has ever seen, Garry Neville could not take his eye off this one, he showered approbations on the youngster.

“The performance levels and the demands that are put on the modern-day full-back are absolutely incredible,’ Neville said. ‘Not just to defend, but to deliver assists, to deliver goals, match-winning moments.”

‘You think of the options now that England have at full back. Reece James, Lamptey, you’ve got Kyle Walker, (Kieran) Trippier, Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the best players in the world.” 

‘He (Carragher) once said that no-one wants to grow up to be a Gary Neville! There is a lot of them, he’s started a phenomenon!’

Lamptey, who started is career at Chelsea and moved to Brighton in January 2019 is eligible to play for Ghana. He has however featured for England at Juvenile level (U-18, 19, 20, 21).

According to reports, the Ghana FA have been observing his growth and have already made contact with the defender over the possibility of playing for Ghana.

With Tariq’s father having openly declared his desire to see his son play for Ghana, there’s hope Ghana could get this one in the bag. But if that is going to happen, then GFA needs to be quick before he gets capped by England.
