Sulley Muntari makes debut as Hearts suffer derby defeat, Chelsea stun Dreams, Karela and Legon Cities pick a point each: 2021/22 GPL Week 16 Results and standings

Former Inter Milan and Ac Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari made his debut for Hearts of Oak as they lost 1-0 to bitterest rivals Great Olympics.

The game had a pulsating start and both teams came close to scoring in opening 15 minutes. Hearts of Oak came close through Daniel Afriyie and Gladson Awako, whiles Maxwell Abbey Quaye struck the post for Great Olympics.

Just minutes after Hearts of Oak missed a glorious chance through Kwadwo Obeng Jnr, Great Olympics broke the deadlock in the 30th minute through Yussif Abdul Razak from a good team move.

In the second half of the game, Hearts of Oak saw more of the ball and brought on the likes of Sulley Muntari, Korfi Kordzi and Abdul-Aziz Nurudeen with the hope of turning the game around but Great Olympics defended gallantly to win 1-0.

At the Duns park in Bibiani, Gold Stars defeated Aduana FC 1-0 to condemn them to their 3rd consecutive league defeat. Stephen Owusu scored the only goal of the game in the first half from a spot-kick.

Eleven Wonders and WAFA played out a pulsating scoreless game at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman.

In Dawu, Kelvin Obeng scored the only goal of the game to earn Berekum Chelsea a 1-0 victory against Dreams FC. Dreams FC’s Kingsley Owusu was shown a red card in the final minutes of the game.

Karela United were held at home by Legon Cities. The Royals went ahead in the 39th minute through Jonah Attuquaye. Just two minutes later, Emmanuel Boakye Owusu leveled the score for Karela.

Results from previous days saw Bechem United beat AshantiGold 2-0, Augustine Okrah and Emmanuel Annor the scorers. A Fatawu Hamidu sublime free-kick earned Accra Lions a 1-0 victory against Medeama at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Second half goals from David Oppong and Enoch Morrison powered King Faisal to a 2-0 victory against Real Tamale United (RTU).

League leaders Asante Kotoko will complete the round when they travel to the Ndoum Sports Complex to play strugglers Elmina Sharks on Monday.
