Asante Kotoko SC has announced that they’ve reached an agreement with Libyan side Al Ahly SC for the transfer of midfielder and club captain, Richard Boadu.

Boadu will travel to Tripoli in the coming days to hold a mandatory medical and sign for the 13-time Libyan champions on a permanent deal.

The 25-year old began his football career at Asante Kotoko’s youth team, before rejoining in September 2021, playing an integral role in the club’s Premier League triumph in the 2021/2022 season.

Boadu before returning to Asante Kotoko played for Kumasi Cornerstones, Phar Rangers and Medeama, where he became a household name in the Premier League and secured a dream move to the Porcupine club.

At Asante Kotoko, Boadu after his first season where he showed commitment and was a spine of the team was named Club captain at the start of the 2022/2023 season, replacing Ismail Ganiyu.

Richard Boadu in two seasons at Asante Kotoko made over 60 appearances for the team in all competitions, including in the CAF Champions League and MTN FA Cup.

He scored 2 goals in those appearances and provided 5 assists. Boadu leaves Asante Kotoko with the record number of tackles in the team and most duels won.
