Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu has emerged as a transfer target for Scottish champions Celtic.
The former Chelsea player has had a torrid time at Newcastle since the arrival of manager Steve Bruce last summer. He has since then started just 6 league games and was omitted from the match day squad for the first game of the 2020/21 English premier league season.
Atsu is one of four players who were recently shown the exit door by Steve Bruce.
“I like Christian [Atsu] – the same goes for [Yoshinori] Muto – trains every day, works tirelessly, a good professional – but in a situation where are they going to play enough? There has to come a time when they go and play football”.
“The same goes for Saivet. Henri has been around the place since I’ve been here. We try to treat him with respect and he trains every day and is a good pro. Henri Saivet, Atsu, Muto, Lazaar [Achraf], Aarons [Rolando]– they need to find a home and try to progress their careers again.”
The 28-year-old has however been given an escape route by Scottish Champions, Celtic.
According to reports, Celtic who have a long standing interest in Atsu have already began discussions for him.
Atsu, who joined Newcastle on a permanent deal from Chelsea in the summer of 2017 after a successful loan spell is valued at €4.80 million by Newcastle per Transfer Markt.
Together with his loan spell at the club, Atsu has featured in 118 games for Newcastle United in all competitions, scoring 8 goals.
Atsu is also on the wanted list of newly promoted Premier League clubs, West Brom and Fulham.
