The chance of sharing a dressing room or playing in the same team with one of football and Africa’s greatest Samuel Eto’o is a rare one, and a privilege to the few who get the chance to.
Former Asante Kotoko right back Samuel Inkoom is one of those few who were privileged to share a dressing room or play alongside the 2 times treble winner.
Inkoom played alongside Samuel Eto’o in Turkey for Antalyaspor in 2016. The Ghanaian international featured in 15 games for the Turkish side.
Speaking via a video call with Joy Sports, the right back recounted on playing alongside the football legend.
“He’s such an amazing guy. I was in Boavista, Portugal at that time and I received a call from [Eto’o] and he said ‘hey listen, I want you in my team’. I said if you are there and Eto’o calls you that he needs you then you need to know that you have something that is amazing”, he told Joy Sports.
“He [Eto’o] spoke to the Antalyaspor and they talked about the personal terms, the transfer fee and everything. At the end of the day, it was a great feeling to play with him. He is a living legend and I was so happy to play with him.”
Samuel Inkoom went on to shower approbations on Samuel Eto’o, touting him as the greatest African footballer ever.
“For me, he [Eto’o] is great. He put Africa on the map. George Weah is there as well. But I will go for Samuel Eto’o [as the greatest ever African player]. Eto’o was amazing”.
Inkoom currently plays for Georgian side Samtredia. The 31 year old has already played for 12 clubs in his professional career.
