Cameroonian Legend Samuel Eto’o has lauded compatriot and Asante Kotoko striker Franck Etouga Mbella for his exploits in the betPawa Premier League.
Franck Etouga joined Asante Kotoko at the start of the 2021/22 season from Cameroonian fold AS Fortuna. The 20-year enjoyed a great season with the Porcupine Warriors, scoring 21 goals in 30 games.
Etouga’s form earned him a place in Cameroon’s preliminary squad for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Kenya and Burundi in June. However, he failed to make the final squad for the games.
Speaking in an interview with 3Sports, President of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), Samuel Eto’o was full of praise for the Asante Kotoko striker.
“Mbella had a beautiful season. Some months ago, my manager told me about him and even the national technical director spoke to me about him. We are very proud of what he’s doing in Ghana,” Eto’o said in an interview with 3Sports.
Samuel Eto’o, who doubles up as the Qatar Legacy Ambassador and the President of Fecafoot arrived in Ghana on Thursday to engage the Ghana FA and the media ahead of Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
With Ghana amongst the five African countries to participate at the World, the Ghana FA has arranged a friendly game against Five-time World Champions Brazil next month.
The friendly game will give Head Coach Otto Addo the platform to continue the assessment of his players for the tourney, and Samuel Eto’o has revealed that his outfit will also make good use of the friendly game by sending scouts to watch the Brazil national team.
“I believe one of Cameroon’s coaches will watch Ghana vs Brazil friendly so to anticipate and know what to expect,” said the Cameroonian FA president on Joy Sports.
Cameroon is drawn in Group G for the World Cup with Switzerland, Serbia and Brazil, while Ghana is drawn in Group H with Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.
