President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), President Samuel Eto‘o has tipped Cameroon to win the Qatar 2022 World Cup which kicks off on Sunday, November 20, 2022.
According to Eto’o who has played in four World Cups but has failed to reach the knockout round, Africa has the potential to be successful at the World Cup but has failed to do so, something he believes will change this time round.
“Africa has always had the potential to achieve a successful World Cup, but we haven’t always shown our best face up to now,” Eto’o said, in his capacity as an ambassador for Qatar Legacy, in a statement received by ESPN.
“During the years, African teams have acquired more and more experience, and I think they’re ready not only to participate in a World Cup, but also to win it.
Eto’o went on to predict that Cameroon will win the World Cup by beating Morocco in the final.
“Cameroon will win the World Cup final against Morocco.”
Cameroon, who are competing in the World Cup for a record 8th time have been pitted in Group G for the Group stages of the World Cup alongside Brazil, Serbia and Switzerland.
The Indomitable Lions announced their final squad for the competition on Wednesday, the likes of Andre Onana, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Karl Toko Ekambi, Andre-Franck Zambo-Anguissa and Bryan Mbeumo, who all ply their trade for top-tier clubs in Europe made the squad.
Also in the list are two home-based players, Souaibou Marou and Jerome Ngom, while long-serving centre back Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui was surprisingly omitted from the squad.
