Sadio Mane wins African player of the year

Senegalese forward Sadio Mane has won the CAF African male footballer of the year 2019. Sadio Mane beat his Liverpool teammate Mohammed Salah and Manchester City’s Algerian forward Riyad Mahrez to the award.

The annual award is decided by a voting panel made up of national team coaches and captains, plus a selection of officials and journalists.

The Liverpool forward guided his national team to the 2019 African cup final only to lose to Algeria. Sadio Mane at club level guided Liverpool to a Champions League triumph in June, he later on topped it up with the Uefa Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

Sadio Mane scored 22 league goals for Liverpool in the 2018/2019 league season, making him the Premier league top scorer together with Arsenal and Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and team mate Mohammed Salah. He also finished 4th in the 2019 Ballon D’or and 5th in the FIFA best player award.
