Right to Dream Academy rally from behind to beat AIK and win seventh Gothia Cup [Video Highlights]

Ghanaian fold Right to Dream Academy have won the Gothia Cup for the seventh time in their history after beating Swedish side AIK 2-1 in the final of the 2023 edition on Saturday afternoon.

Right to Dream were perfect and unstoppable throughout the competition, scoring 18 goals and conceding just 2 in 6 games.

The Akosombo-based side started their title defence with a 6-0 win over Fredrikstad Fotballklubb, before beating Landskrona BoIS 5-0 in the second group game and IF Elfsborg 3-0 in their final group game.

Right to Dream edged Japanese fold Cerezo Osaka in the quarter finals, beating them 1-0. The team defeated Mjällby AIF 2-1 in the semifinal to set a date with AIK in the final.

In the final, Right to Dream came from a goal down to beat AIK 2-1. AIK went ahead in the early minutes of the game but defender Stephen Acquah scored a brace to win the game for Right Dream, their seventh Gothia Cup.

The Gothia Cup is an international youth association football tournament organized by professional football club BK Häcken, which has been held annually since 1975 in Gothenburg, Sweden

The competition has grown to over 1,700 teams representing more than 70 countries annually. The likes of Xabi Alonso, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Júlio Baptista, Alan Shearer, Andreas Pirlo and so on have in the past featured in the competition.
