Just before Terrance Crawford defended his WBO welterweight title against No.1 title contender Egidijus Kavaliauskas. Ghana’s sensational boxer Richard Commey had his IBF title on the line when he faced the vicious Teofimo Lopez in the Co-main event.
The well hyped lightweight title bout barely lasted for 4 minutes. After a balanced and a tactical first round, Teofimo caught Commey with a perfect right hand in the second round. Commey dropped to the ground and courageously tried to fight his way out of trouble. The referee after 8 counts allowed the fight to continue. Teofimo in no time pounced on the disoriented and injured Commey with a barrage of power punches. The referee was forced to stop the fight which was scheduled for 12 rounds.
Richard Commey (30-3, 26 KOs) lost his IBF title. The defeat was only his 3rd defeat in his professional boxing career. His two other loses were against Denis Shafikov and Robert Easter Jnr, both loses by split decision. Teofimo (15-0, 11 KOs) who’s still undefeated and the current IBF title holder is expected to fight Ukraine’s Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KOs) who owns the WBA and WBO lightweight titles.
Terrance Crawford also defeated Egidijus Kavaliauskas by TKO in the ninth round to defend his welterweight title.
