REVEALED: Why Ernest Nuamah starts Ghana’s crucial AFCON U-23 clash against Guinea on the bench

Nordsjaelland forward Ernest Nuamah has been named on the bench for Ghana’s final Group A game of the TotalEnergies U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Guinea at the Grand Stade of Tangier.

The Black Stars head into the game needing nothing short of a win to progress to the knockout round of the competition which serves as qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games to be played in Paris.

However, they’ll have to do so without the service of talisman Ernest Nuamah for most parts of the game.

Per a report gathered by MahamaShaibu.com, the youngster suffered a thigh injury in Tuesday’s 5-1 heavy defeat to Egypt, a situation which kept him out of training.

The absence of Nuamah will be a huge blow to Ghana but head coach, Ibrahim Tanko is counting on skipper Daniel Afriyie Barnieh who is selected as replacement and comes into the team after suiting on the bench in the previous game.

Samuel Abbey- Ashie Quaye, Nathaniel Adjei and Emmanuel Essiam have also been handed starting roles, coming in for Aaron Essel, Dominic Nsobila and Salim Adams.

Ibrahim Danlad, Terry Yegbe, Oppong Afrane, Fatawu Issahaku, Hafiz Adam, Edmund Arko Mensah and Emmanuel Yeboah retain their places in the starting eleven.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 9pm local time (8pm GMT).
