Head of Communications for Legon Cities FC, Kwame Dwomoh Agyemang has refuted reports that his outfit paid a whopping amount of $1 million to secure the services of Asamoah Gyan.

Asamoah Gyan on transfer deadline day sealed a lucrative move to Legon Cities, he joined the Royals on a year deal as a free agent.

According to media reports, Legon Cities paid a whopping amount of $1 million to secure the services of Gyan.

However, head of Communications for the club, Kwame Dwomoh Agyemang has refuted those reports, adding that the contract between the two parties is performance-based.

“Gyan will play for us this season and if things go on well there is the possibility that he will stay with us for another season. Gyan’s contract is structured, we have seen a lot of things in the media but that isn’t the case,” he told Accra based Vision 1 FM.

“We can’t disclose the amount he is going to take even the Europeans do not do that. What we normally hear are speculations from the media. There is no club that will disclose the salary of a player because it is confidential.”

“What I can say is that he signed a performance-based contract,” he added.

Asamoah Gyan previously played in the domestic top-flight league for Liberty Professionals in 2003, scoring 10 goals in 16 games before leaving the side to join Italian outfit Udinese.

The 34-year-old started training with the club earlier this week and is in contention to start the club’s first league game against Berekum Chelsea at the Accra Sports Stadium next week.
