Resilient Asante Kotoko pick first win of the season against wasteful Legon Cities

Asante Kotoko defeated Legon Cities 1-0 to pick their first win of the season.

Both sides came into game hoping to pick their first win of the season after 4 round of games.

Maxwell Konadu named a solid team, Kwame Baah, Christopher Netty, Ibrahim Osman and Kwame Poku were handed starts, whiles Yusif Mubarik was relegated to the bench.

Bashir Hayford also named a strong team, Nicholas Mensah made a return from injury. Asamoah Gyan, who’s still lacking match fitness only earned a place on the bench.

Kotoko lineup vs Legon Cities

Asante Kotoko started the game on the front foot and nearly took the lead in the 2nd minute. Kwame Poku’s effort in the 16-yard box was smartly kept out by Fatau Dauda.

The Porcupine Warriors came close again in the 10th minute, a pile driver from Emmanuel Keyekeh was pushed away by Fatau Dauda.

Kotoko after threatening through the first 10 minutes took the lead in the 11th minute, Ibrahim Osman connected with a low cross from Godfred Asiamah to give Kotoko the lead.

The tempo of the game slowed down and Legon Cities started seeing more of the ball but failed to make good use of it.

Kotoko were forced into making two changes before the break, Osman Ibrahim was replaced by Evans Adomako and Muniru Sulley came on for Kwame Adom Frimpong. They were forced into making another sub at the recess, Emmanuel Keyekeh was replaced by Yusif Mubarik.

Legon Cities after the recess came blazing and nearly grabbed the equalizer in the 46th minute, Raphael Ocloo failed to beat Kwame Baah in a 1 on 1 situation.

The Royals came close again in the 55th minute, a first time effort from David Cudjoe inside the 18-yard box was palmed away by Kwame Baah. The rebound fell to Joseph Adjei who couldn’t hit the ball on target.

Asamoah Gyan was introduced into the game in the 60th minute, but he wasn’t given space by the resilient Kotoko defense to do any damage.

Kotoko nearly made it 2-0 in the 83rd minute, Emmanuel Gyamfi after a quick free kick found himself in a 1 on 1 situation with Fatau Dauda but he failed to beat the experienced goalie.

The game ended 1-0. Kotoko pick their first win of the season, whiles the search for a first win of the season for Legon Cities continues.
