The technical team of the Black Stars has according to reports failed in its bid to replace Joseph Paintsil in the squad for the final Group E game of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Central African Republic.

Joseph Paintsil withdrew from the squad due to an injury he suffered while playing for Genk in Sunday’s league game against Anderlecht.

Per a report from GhanaSoccernet, the technical team of the Black Stars which is led by Chris Hughton handed a late call-up to Abdul Fatawu Issahaku to replace the Belgium-based winger.

However, Leicester City turned down the offer, stating that joining the national team at this time won’t help the youngster who’s settling in at the English Championship side, where he arrived recently on loan from Sporting Lisbon.

The development means Chris Hughton will have only 24 players available for the game scheduled for 4pm kick off at the Baba Yara Sports stadium on Thursday, September 07, 2023.

Ghana need a win or a draw to secure a place at the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be played in the Cote D’Ivoire in January and February next year.
