Premier League Review: Gameweek 3

Gameweek 3 brought us yet another set of exciting fixtures. We take a look at how things unfolded in all 9 fixtures:

LIBERTY PROFESSIONALS 1- 1 MEDEAMA

Liberty Professionals on Saturday welcomed Medeama to the Dansoman Carl Reindoff Park for the first game of gameweek 3. The first half of the game was evenly contested, with both sides failing to create any clear cut chance. The game came to live in the 61st minute when substitute Abraham Wayo dazzled his way into the Liberty 18 yard box and was brought down, a penalty was awarded to Liberty. Talisman Elvis Kyei-Baffour stepped up and converted the penalty beautifully, the goalkeeper had no chance. Medeama leveled matters in the 78th minute after a quick and a beautiful counter attack was converted by substitute Nana Kofi Babil. It was his 3rd goal of the season, all 3 goals have come from the bench. The game ended 1-1. Youngster Nana Kofi Babil was awarded man of the match.

HEARTS OF OAK 2-1 EBUSUA DWARFS

Accra Hearts of Oak welcomed Ebusua Dwarfs to the Accra Sports Stadium in a game which was a must win game for both clubs. Both clubs were yet to pick even a point this season. The Phobians took the lead in the 29th minute after Joseph Esso curled in a beautiful freekick from the edge of the box. Esso’s goal was the first the Phobians have scored this season. kofi Kordzi in the 56th minute fired a freekick from the edge of the box to make it 2 nil for Hearts Oak. Dwarfs pulled one back in the 70th minute after an error in the Hearts defense. Albert Ato Hammond slotted the ball pass the onrushing Richard Attah. Today wasn’t a day for a comeback as the game ended 2-1 to Hearts of Oak. Joseph Esso was adjudged man of the match.

ADUANA STARS 2-1 KING FAISAL

King Faisal travelled to Dormaa hoping they can earn their first point of the season, but that will have to wait for another gameweek. Yahya Mohammed opened the scoring for Aduana Stars in 30th minute. The in form striker added to his tally in the 57th minute to make it 2 goals for himself and 2 goals for his team on the day, making him the top scorer in the league with 5 goals. Ibrahim Osman scored in the 79th minute to give King Faisal the chance of a fight back, but that wasn’t meant to happen today as Aduana Stars hanged on and walked away with all 3 points. 2-1 it ended to Aduana Stars. Aduana Stars are now 34 games unbeaten at home.

ASANTE KOTOKO 0-1 BEREKUM CHELSEA

Berekum Chelsea stunned yet another big gang away from home, they beat Kumasi Asante Kotoko 1-0. The away side scored in the 7th minute of the game. Kofi Owusu received a brilliant pass inside the box from Jeorge Renchi, and slotted the ball into the left bottom corner, leaving goalkeeper Felix Annan helpless. Asante Kotoko had numerous clear cut chances to equalize, but they couldn’t find their scoring boot. There was drama in the 76th minute, Empem Dacosta was shown a second yellow card and subsequently a red for an off-the-ball incident which rather involved Kwame Adom and a Chelsea player. The incident angered Kotoko fans as they begun to throw projectiles onto the field. The game was paused for a while and later continued, Kotoko couldn’t find the equalizer as their 4 years unbeaten run at home in the league came to end. Berekum Chelsea won 1-0. Ahmed Adams was awarded the Nasco man of the match award.

ASHANTI GOLD 2-0 ELEVEN WONDERS

Ashanti Gold welcomed Eleven Wonders to the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium as they hope to continue their impressive start to the league season. The home team took the lead in the 29th minute, Mark Agyekum sent Emmanuel Owusu through, the youngster calmly slotted the ball past goalkeeper Kwadwo Moosie. Mark Agyekum made it 2nil just seconds before the referee blew his whistle for the end of the first half, he curled in a beautiful shot in the 18 yard box. There was no goal in the second half as the game ended 2-0 in favor of Ashanti Gold. Mark Agyekum was named Nasco man of the match.

BECHEM UNITED 1-0 GREAT OLYMPICS

Bechem United continued their impressive run at home against Olympics. The home team made it 3 in 3 against Olympics at the Nana Gyaebour Park. Adu Kwabena Prince scored the only goal of the game in the 28th minute to give Bechem United the lead and all 3 points. Great Olympics recorded their 3rd defeat of the season. Hafiz Wontah Konkoni of Bechem United was adjudged Nasco man of the match.

DREAMS FC 0-0 LEGON CITIES FC

Dreams FC dropped their point of the season when they drew 0-0 against a Legon City at the Theater of Dreams, Dawu. Legon Cities also continue the search for their first win this season. Both sides had good opportunities to break the deadlock, but none was able to find their scoring boots. Emmanuel Ocran and Sadick Sulley came the closest to breaking the deadlock. Jeffrey Degorl was awarded man of the match, the 2nd in 3 games.

ELMINA SHARKS 0-0 WAFA SC

There was yet another goalless scoreline in this weekend’s fixture. Elmina Sharks and WAFA battled it at the the Ndoum Sports complex. None of the two sides was able to win it. Fumador in the first half found the back of the net for Elmina Sharks after he tapped home Benjamin Boateng deflected shot, but the flag was raised. Benjamin Tweneboah in the second half called goalkeeper Acquah-Ibrahim to action, his shot from outside the box was brilliantly stopped by the goalkeeper. Both teams couldn’t break the deadlock as the game ended 0-0. Benjamin Tweneboah was awarded man of the match for the 2nd time in 3 games.

KARELA UNITED 2-1 INTER ALLIES

Karela welcomed Inter Allies to Tarkwa as they search for their first win of the season. It took them just 6 minutes to open the scoring. Franklyn Osei scored from a powerful drive to make it 1-0 to Karela. Just 3 minutes into the second half, Inter Allies were awarded a penalty, Captain Victorein Adebayor’s effort was saved by the goalkeeper, but he had a second chance as he scored from the rebound to make it 1-1. Abega Ofosu dug a trench in the hearts of Inter Allies when he scored with almost the last kick of the game. The game ended 2-1 in favour of Karela. Shaibu Iddrisu was adjudged Nasco man of match.
