Premier league Review: Gameweek 2

The Premier League presented us with yet another set of enthralling games, we take a look at how things unfolded in gameweek 2 from each of the 9 games.

LEGON CITIES FC 1-3 ASANTE KOTOKO

Legon Cities Fc and Asante Kotoko kicked off the weekend’s fixture on Friday night in the capital city. Legon Cities FC took an early lead through Greek Striker Papadopoulos, he connected with a cross from Romeo Oppong at the far post. Kotoko leveled matters in the 34th minute through Augustine Okrah, Burkinabe Striker Sogne Yacouba pounced on a loose ball at the halfway line and sent in a long ball to Augustine Okrah who had only the goalkeeper to beat, he dunk the ball over the onrushing Fatawu Dauda. Kotoko took the lead for the first time in the game in the 51st minute when Emmanuel Gyamfi intercepted a back pass from Emmanuel Suleiman and slotted it in the left bottom corner, Fatawau Dauda was left helpless. Kotoko killed the game off in the 61st minute. Songne Yacouba pounced on a loose ball halfway the Legon Cities half. He took on two defenders and provided a cross into the goal area which was met by the unmarked Emmanuel Gyamfi at the far post, he headed the ball into an empty net. 3-1 to Kotoko. Youngster Mathew Cudjoe made his league debut, he came on for Emmanuel Gyamfi in the 84th minute. Sogne Yacouba was awarded man of the match.

INTER ALLIES 2-1 BECHEM UNITED

The second of three played at the Accra sports stadium was between Inter Allies and Bechem United. Inter Allies took an early lead through Kwabena Kyeremateng. The visitors responded in the 22nd minute, Salifu Moro with the goal. It was the first goal Becehem United has scored against Inter Allies away from home. Just minutes before the referee brought the first half to an end, Nigerian striker Victorien Adebayor came to the party, he scored Inter Allies second goal and the winning goal of the game to open his account for the season. Captain Victorien Adje Adebayor was named man of the match.

MEDEAMA 3-0 HEARTS OF OAK

Kim Grantless Accra Hearts of Oak went into this game hoping they can earn their first 3 points of the season, but they were outclassed and annihilated by Medeama. It took the home team just 3 minutes to open the scoring from the spot kick through Prince Opoku Agyemang after Kofi Kordzi handled the ball in the 18 yard box. Prince Opoku Agyemang doubled his the tally for the day in the 31st minute to make it 2 nil for Medeama. Kofi Babil came from the bench to deepen the wounds of Accra Hearts of Oak, he scored the 3rd and final goal of game. Prince Opoku Agyemang was adjudged man of the match. Accra Hearts of Oak continue to search their first win of the season.

KING FAISAL 0-1 ASHANTI GOLD

The search for the first point of the season for Alhaji Grusah’s boys continues as Ashanti Gold made it two in two. Defender Yussif Mubarak scored his second goal of the season from a free kick in the 71st to give the Ashanti Gold all three points. King Faisal will travel to Dormaa next week to face Aduana Stars whiles Ashanti Gold will host Techiman Eleven wonders.

GREAT OLYMPICS  0-1 ADUANA STARS

Accra Great Olympics pulled off an impressive performance against Aduana Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium. Nathan Kwasi Richard came from the bench to dig a trench in the hearts of Olympics, he scored in injury time to give the Dormaa side all three points

BEREKUM CHELSEA  0-0 LIBERTY PROFESSIONALS

Berekum Chelsea and Liberty professionals produced the first goalless draw game of the season. Bechem United were the best side for most part of the game, but they were denied from scoring countless of times by the brilliant Ganiwu Shaibu. The goalkeeper’s fantastic performance on the day earned him the man of the match award.

ELMINA SHARKS 1-1 KARELA UNITED 

Both Elmina Sharks and Karela United esrned their first points of the season. The way side broke the deadlock in the 30th minute through Darlington Gyanfosu. It didn’t take long for the home side to strike back through Samuel Arthur. Both sides from then had decent chances to win all three points but none of them was able to capitalize on their chances. Benjamin Tweneboah was adjudged man of the match. Elmina Sharks will host WAFA next, whiles Karela host Inter Allies.

WAFA 2-0 EBUSUA DWARFS

Wafa continued their decent start to the new season, whiles Ebusua Dwarfs continent to struggle. Eric Asaman scored the first goal of the game for WAFA in the 13th minute, he slotted in from close range from a rebound. Teenager Daniel Owusu in the 80th minute scored WAFA’s second and the last of the game after coming from the bench. It was his first goal of the game. Dwarfs will hope they can pick their first point of the season next weekend when they face fellow strugglers Hearts of Oak. WAFA will also travel to Elmina to face to Elmina Sharks.

ELEVEN WONDERS 0-1 DREAMS

Eleven Wonders were handed their second loss of the season and their second lost at Ohene Ameyaw Park since joining the league. Still Believe graduate Sulemana Mohammed was handed his second start of the season and he didn’t disspont his manager, he scored the game’s only goal in the 22nd minute to give Dreams all 3 points. Dreams have a big one at home next week when they welcome Legon Cities Fc, Eleven Wonders will travel to Obuasi to face Ashanti Gold.
