Premier League Preview: Gameweek 4

The Premier League presents us with yet another set of exciting fixtures. This Gameweek becomes the first to be played in Midweek. 8 of the fixtures will take place on Wednesday, whiles the other 1 comes on on Thursday. We take a look at what to expect in all 9 fixtures:


Berekum Chelsea “the Giant killers” will welcome Dreams to Berekum for a midweek action. Berekum Chelsea have so far being superb this season, beating Giants Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko on the road. Dreams have also started the new league season impressively, they dropped points for the first time this season in their last outing at home to Legon Cities. Dreams will hope they can get back to winning ways when they travel to Berekum on Wednesday, but that will be an herculean task. They will be facing a team that is yet to concede a goal after playing Hearts of Oak, Liberty Professionals and Asante Kotoko. Dreams, the last side to beat Berekum Chelsea in Berekum. The game ended 1-0, goal courtesy Samuel Pimpong who will be playing against them this time round.

Ebusua Dwarfs have had a poor start to the new season, losing to Medeama at home, WAFA and Hearts of Oak on the road. Dwarfs were quite unlucky the last time out, all their handwork against Hearts of Oak was undone by two set pieces from Joseph Esso and Kofi Kordzi. They’ll hope they don’t face similar fate when they face Liberty Professionals in Cape Coast on Wednesday. Liberty are unbeaten so far this season, but are yet to pick all 3 points. They’ll hope they can do that when they face the struggling Dwarfs in Cape Coast.

Techiman Eleven Wonders have had an horrendous start to the league season. They’ve lost all three games and failed to even hit the back of the net. They’ll hope they can change that on Wednesday when they welcome Aduana Stars to Techiman. They face a side that has so far won all 3 games and conceded just a goal. Top scorer Yahya Mohammed will hope to continue his impressive scoring form when he faces the 15th placed side. Aduana’s manager Paul Tandoh has attributed his team’s promising start to the league season to “work ethics”.

King Faisal will hope they can turn around their misfortunes come Wednesday when they face Bechem United in Kumasi. After a shocking one nil defeat to Berekum Chelsea at home. Asante Kotoko will travel to a daunting ground in Akoon Park hoping to bounce back. The Porcupine Warriors have faced problems both on and off the pitch. Just few days ago, GFA banned the club temporary from playing at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium after the fans of the club were involved in hooliganism,an appalling and unsporting event which led to one fan being shot. The club will hope to put all these aside when they travel to Tarkwa to face the in form and resilient Medeama. Medeama are so far unbeaten this season and have already dropped one giant Accra Hearts of Oak in Tarkwa. They’ll hope they replicate that scintillating performance when the face the troubled Asante Kotoko.

WAFA also dropped points for the first time this season when they drew 0-0 against Elmina Sharks in Elmina. Accra Hearts of Oak will have bittersweet memories going into this game, the last time the two sides met was in May 2019 in the Normalization Special cup in Accra. Accra Hearts of Oak won the game by 4-0. Also the last time Accra Hearts of Oak travelled to Sogakope to play WAFA in the league, they lost by 5-0. A disappointing result they’ll hope to avoid this time round.

The Royals have lead at a point in 2 if their 3 games, but are yet to secure a win this season, it’ll be a big one if they can do it on Wednesday night. They’ll be facing an Ashanti Gold that has won all three games and yet to concede a goal. Goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda is a doubt for this game, he was subbed off in the second half the last time out.

Olympics will on Thursday welcome Karela to the Accra Sports Stadium for the last game of this gameweek. This will be the first meeting between the two sides. Olympics are yet to win a point this season and are one of two sides yet to score a goal this season. After losing this first league game at home to WAFA, Karela have bounced back superbly, drawing away to Elmina Sharks and beating Inter Allies by 2-1. Karela will hope they can deepen the wounds of Olympics when they the two sides face off.
