Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens will take on their Guinean counterparts in the return leg of the first round of the qualifiers of the Paris 2024 Olympics Games on Tuesday, 18 July, 2023.
The Black Queens will head into the return leg with an advantage after winning the first leg 3-0 at the Stade de Generale Lansana Conte in Conakry on Friday evening, a result the coach of the team, Nora Häuptle is excited about.
“I think we’ve had a good start in the Olympic qualifiers. We won this game 3-0. We had a stable start and I think in the end the score should have been much higher,” Nora Häuptle told the media after the game.
“In the end I’m very satisfied. We are looking forward to travel home to mother Ghana and of course having the second game,” she added.
The Black Queens opened the scoring in the 19th minute through Vivian Adjei Konadu, pouncing on an error by the goalkeeper. Doris Boaduwaa made it 2-0 in the 27th minute from a header, before Evelyn Badu wrapped up the win in 72nd minute.
The team is expected to arrive in Accra on Saturday, June 15 and continue their preparations for the return leg scheduled for Tuesday, June 18 at the Accra Sports Stadium at 15:00 GMT.
Should the Black Queens protect or improve their 3-0 lead from the first leg, they’ll advance to the second round of the qualifiers, where they’ll face one of Guinea Bissau and Benin between 23–31 October 2023.
