French Ligue Outfit As Monaco, has completed the signing of Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu.
The 24-year old joins from recently demoted English Premier League outfit, Southampton on a 5-year deal for a fee reported to be around £15m.
“AS Monaco is pleased to announce the arrival of central defender Mohammed Salisu from Southampton Football Club. The Ghanaian international, 24, has committed for 5 seasons and is now linked with the Monegasque club until June 2028,” said Monaco on their website.
Mohammed Salisu before arriving at Monaco was close to signing for Fulham. However, the club shifted their focus to signing Calvin Bassey for Ajax.
Salisu spent three seasons at Southampton, arriving at the club in the summer transfer window of 2020 from Spanish fold Real Valladolid, where he made 31 league appearances in the 2019/20 season.
The Ghanaian center-back made 80 appearances for Southampton, with 68 of those appearances coming in the Premier League. He scored only a goal for the club, coming in a League Cup game against Sheffield United.
At National level, Salisu has made 6 appearances for the Ghana national team, including at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, where he scored a goal in the second group game against South Korea.
Mohammed Salisu comes in at Monaco as replacement for Axel Disasi, who recently left Monaco to join Premier League club Chelsea.
