“Majeed is a young, versatile midfielder with a lot of verticality in his game. He was schooled withing the Red Bull philosophy, meaning his profile matches what we look for in a player. On top of that, Majeed has a good acceleration and he loves to infiltrate,” Anderlecht’s Sporting Director, Peter Verbeke said after the move.
“Even more importantly, Majeed really wanted to come to Anderlecht, and we negotiated an option to buy the player, which gives us a perspective on a long term collaboration,” he added.
Ashimeru started his professional career at WAFA, he joined Red Bull Salzburg in 2017 after impressing at WAFA.
Since joining Red Bull Salzburg, Majeed Ashimeru has struggled to earn consistent playing time at the club, and that has seen him gone on loan at Austria Lustenau, Wolfsberger and St. Gallen in the past seasons.
Despite impressing on his loan deals, Majeed has not been handed enough playing time by manager Jesse Marsch, he has started just 5 of the club’s games in all competitions this season.
The 23-year-old has now decided to join Anderlecht in search for more playing minutes as he hopes to earn a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2022 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.
Anderlecht currently sit 5th on the Belgium Jupiler league table with 32 points after 20 games.
Manager Vincent Kompany will hope Majeed with his vast experience can help his side secure a Champions league or Europa league place come the end of the season.
