Ghanaian international Ibrahim Sadiq has officially signed for Dutch fold AZ Alkmaar from BK Häcken.

The 23-year old joins the two-time Eredivisie winners on a five-year contract for a fee reported to be around €3.5m.

Sadiq leaves BK Hacken just hours after scoring a brace against Aberdeen to help the team reach the group stages of the Europa League for the first time in their history.

“It’s a great stadium,” Sadiq says while being impressed by the AFAS Stadium. “These are stadiums you’d like to play in. It’s like a dream come true for me. AZ really wanted me. That also makes you feel good.”

Born in Accra – Ghana, Sadiq came through the ranks of Right to Dream Academy, before ending up at FC Nordsjælland from Denmark in the summer of 2018.

Two years ago, Sadiq switched to Swedish BK Häcken, where he scored 27 goals and provided eight assists, helping the team win the 2022 Swedish league and the 2023 Swedish Cup.

‘Ibrahim has consistently performed at BK Häcken for two years,’ says Director of Football Affairs Max Huiberts.

“We wanted to have another attacker with it. That’s why we caught up with the arrival of Ibrahim. It is a player who can handle multiple positions, but he mainly plays from the right flank and could also play in the striker.”

He continued: “We have a lot of choice and a lot of quality at the forefront. We can bring forwards who make a difference and can run the game. We’ve seen that a number of times this season. If you are going to play a lot of games and want to be active in multiple leagues, you also have to be strong in breadth. With bringing in Ibrahim, we are once again adding a lot of quality to the forefront.”

Ibrahim Sadiq is expected to join his teammates in training on Saturday ahead of the league game against Vitesse on Sunday. The Ghanaian will wear the jersey number 23 at the club.
