OFFICIAL: FC Zurich announce the signing of Daniel Afriyie Barnieh

Swiss side FC Zurich has confirmed the signing of Daniel Afriyie Barnieh from Ghana Premier league fold, Accra Hearts of Oak.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh joins the Swiss league holders on a three-year contact after passing mandatory medicals for an undisclosed fee, a statement from Zurich read.

The full statement read:

The 21-year-old striker Daniel Afriyie is transferring from the Ghanaian first division club Hearts of Oak to FCZ with immediate effect and has signed a contract until the summer of 2026. The parties have agreed not to disclose the details of the transfer.

Afriyie completed his football education in his home country of Ghana and was under contract with Ghanaian second division club Galaxy United from 2016 to 2017.

He then played in Burkina Faso at Rahimo FC, with whom he won the championship and qualified for the CAF Champions League. As a result, the three-time Ghana A-national player moved back to Ghana, where he has been playing at Hearts of Oak since summer 2019 and scored 13 goals and four assists in 69 competitive games.

Daniel Afriyie will join FC Zurich after his assignment at the current African Nations Cup, in which only players who play in the national leagues of their home countries are eligible.

Marinko Jurendic, head of sport at FCZ, comments on the transfer as follows: “Daniel Afriyie is a dynamic and versatile attacking player who has a courageous style of play. He should take the next step in development at FCZ and give our game further opportunities forward.”
