The Confederations of African Football (CAF) has postponed the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
After a meeting on Tuesday afternoon, the Confederation of African Football made the decision to move the 2021 AFCON to January 2022 due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The African show piece event was earlier scheduled to begin on January 9, 2021 but has now been officially postponed to January, 2022. Cameroon is still expected to host the event.
The African Nations Championship (CHAN) which was supposed to begin earlier this year has also been postponed to 2021, whiles the CAF Champions league semifinal and final will be played in Cameroon.
The Confederation cup semifinals and finals will be played in Morocco.
CAF also announced that the 2020 African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) has been cancelled and the Women’s Champions League will begin in 2021.
