The Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has banned Division One Zone Two side Kenpong Academy FC from using the Swedru Stadium as its home venue with immediate effect, a statement has confirmed.
The ban comes in after unfortunate happenings in the Gameweek 23 Division One Zone Two clash between Kenpong FC and New Edubiase FC played on Sunday, April 17, 2023.
The game between the two teams ended abruptly after fans of Kenpong Soccer Academy attacked the referees, the officials and the players of New Edubiase.
The decision to ban the Stadium is in accordance with Article 14(2) of the GFA Division One League Regulations which states inter alia “the GFA may order the closure of any league centre where the safety of clubs, Match Officials or Spectators cannot be guaranteed.”
Following the ban, the Competitions Department will choose a new home venue for the Club’s subsequent home matches in accordance with the Division One League Regulations.
The Disciplinary Committee in application of the relevant Regulations will make a decision on the outcome of the game which ended abruptly. Kenpong Soccer Academy were leading 3-2 at the time the game was stopped.
