Mubarak Wakaso returns to China

Ghanaian international Mubarak Wakaso has returned to Chinese fold Shenzhen FC after a year loan spell at Belgium side KAS Eupen.

Mubarak Wakaso made 9 appearances for the Belgium side, helping them avoid relegation by just a point. The industrious midfielder didn’t really leave a mark at Eupen due to injuries.

Wakaso returns to Shenzhen FC with two years left on his contract at the club. The 33-year old joined the club in April 2021 on a 4-year deal for free after leaving Jiangsu Suning.

Mubarak Wakaso left Jiangsu Suning after the team collapsed due to financial difficulties amid the coronavirus pandemic that first broke in China in November 2019 and peaked globally between March 2020 to June 2020.

Before the coronavirus, Wakaso who arrived at Jiangsu in January 2020 from Alaves helped the team win the Chinese Super league for the first time in their history.

Wakaso’s return to Shenzhen is a big boost for the team. Shenzhen is currently struggling and lying bottom of the Chinese Super League table with 12 points from 19 games played so far.

The club will hope the return of the Ghanaian who has vast experience having made 70 appearances for the Ghana national team and played for over 10 teams in 8 countries across 3 continents. Notably; Villarreal, Celtic, Espanyol, Elche and so on.
