The Ministry of Youth and Sports has debunked reports that the technical team of the Black Meteors has not been paid since their appointment.

Per reports from the media circles in recent days, the technical team of the Black Meteors which is led by Coach Ibrahim Tanko and his two assistants, Godwin Attram and Michael Osei have not received a penny since their appointment in June last year.

In a statement, the sports ministry has debunked the reports, stating that the technical members of the team have been paid all their outstanding bonuses, except their bonus for defeating Algeria

The statement read: “The attention of the Ministry of Youth and Sports has been drawn to claims on social media that coaches of the Black Meteors have never been paid any money since they were appointed

“We wish to categorically state that, these claims are false. The technical members of the team have been paid all their outstanding bonuses, except their bonus for defeating Algeria, which the Ministry is working to get them paid.”

“As the team prepares for the Africa Under 23 AFCON currently in Egypt, their daily allowances are being paid, and team members have been duly informed of a bonus structure for the Under 23 AFCON in Morocco.”

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports’ ultimate objective Is to facilitate the qualification of the Black Meteors to Ghana’s first Olympics in 20 years, hence Government’s continuous supports and investment in the team, which includes the on-going pre-tournament training camp in Egypt.”

“We wish to urge all to focus on supporting the team to achieve the ultimate objective of qualifying for the 2024 Olympics in France,” the statement ended.

Ghana is scheduled to face Congo, Morocco and Guinea at the 2023 U23 AFCON to be staged in Morocco from Saturday, June 24 to Saturday, July 8, 2023.

The Black Stars will kickoff their campaign against Congo on Sunday, June 25, before playing Morocco on Tuesday, June 27 and then Guinea on Friday, June 30.

Two best teams from Group A and B will advance to the semifinals stage of the competition.

Winner of the tournament and the two runner ups will qualify to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games Mens Soccer competition in Paris next year, while the 4th-placed team will play against a team from Asia in a playoffs to decide the final slot at the Olympics.
