Head Coach of Arsenal, Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Thomas Partey picked up a groin injury and will be sidelined for some weeks.
The Ghanaian midfielder picked the injury in training and missed out on the club’s 3-1 win against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Speaking on the injury, Mikel Arteta divulged that it doesn’t look good but more tests will be carried in the coming days to determine the full extent.
“I don’t know,” he said. “Unfortunately he got an injury in training and it doesn’t look good, we need some more tests, we believe he’s going to be out for weeks. We think it’s a groin but can be something in between,” he added.
The injury will keep Partey out of Arsenal’s next league games and also the opening games of the UEFA Champions League.
He will also miss Ghana’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Central African Republic on Thursday, September 7 and also the friendly game against Liberia on Tuesday, September 12.
Ghana need at least a draw against the Central African Republic to secure a place at the 2023 AFCON to be played in Ivory Coast in January and February next year.
