Maamobi-based side, Mendez FC have secured promotion to the Greater Accra Regional Football Association (GARFA) Division Two League after beating Doxa-H United FC in the final of the Accra North District Football Association (ANDFA) Division Three middle league.
Mendez FC and Doxa-H United FC who have proved to be the best two sides in the Division from the District clashed at the Alajo AstroTurf in a mouthwatering final on Thursday.
The final wasn’t short of excitement and was cagily contested. Both teams created good goal scoring opportunities but none was able to break the deadlock as the game travelled to penalty shootouts.
In the shootouts, Mendez found themselves down at the beginning but managed to come back and emerge victorious, winning 11-10.
The win ensures that Mendez are champions of the ANDFA Division Three league, in the process securing promotion to the 2023/24 GARFA Division Two League.
The qualification to the elite division in the Regional League comes at their first attempt in the Division Three League and is the attestation of the famous adage “hard work wins”.
Mendez were fantastic throughout the season, including in the regular league, where they played 18 matches, won 15, drew 1 and lost just 2, scoring 45 goals in the process and conceding just 13.
The Maamobi-based side will now compete in the new GARFA Division Two league season which is expected to kick off in November this year.
Meanwhile, Peace Boys FC emerged winners of the ANDFA Juvenile U-17 league, coming from a goal down to beat Charity Stars 2-1 in the final.
