Gaffer of Asante Kotoko Maxwell Konadu has divulge the reason why he now prefers Kwame Baah to Felix Annan as the club’s first choice goalkeeper.
Maxwell Konadu revealed that dropping Felix Annan was due to ‘sporting reasons’. He also revealed that he made his mind up after the super clash against Hearts of Oak.
Felix Annan started the season as Kotoko’s number one goalkeeper, but he hasn’t featured for the club in the league since gameweek 4’s fixture against Medeama in Tarkwa. The shot stopper was given permission by the club to have his wedding ceremony after the game against Medeama in mid January.
Kwame Baah who stepped in to replace him hasn’t looked back since. He has managed to keep 6 clean-sheets in 10 games. According to the manager, dropping Felix Annan from the team was due to sporting reasons.
“The night before the Hearts (of Oak) game, usually I prefer to interact with my technical and players a night before a game than on match days,” explained Maxwell Konadu.
“I meet with my technical team and discuss everything about the match. We discuss who to play and who to be on the bench on the match day. Everyone brings his idea and then we discuss to find the best out of them.”
“In the said match, Kwame Baah was to start,” Maxwell Konadu continued. “Felix had been excused the previous week to hold his wedding so it was only proper that we started Kwame Baah. And he did not disgrace himself. His performance was okay with us.”
Felix Annan who has arguably been the best goalkeeper in the league in recent years has been linked with a move to South African side Maritzburg United as a replacement for fellow Ghanaian shot stopper Richard Ofori who is on the wanted list of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
